I think 3D is the way of the future, why? because it's an upgrade from 2D. As simple as that sounds, it has areas which 2D cannot reach, ever, and for this fact alone shows the potential of the technology. While 2D will forever remain in my heart, I can't help but feel excited to see these new technologies jumping out at me (no pun intended). I hold the same views about 3D TV as most others, I'm not very into them, I find the glasses annoying and the difference quite small. But to have a very negative view on the technology as a whole just because of this is quite foolish. I think it's just a matter of time before 3D starts becoming very, very interesting.
Let's face it, the technology is very new, and as it gets better the 3D effects we see are simply going to keep getting better. Along with new techniques to capture certain elements in which 3D is very effective.
There also seems to be a variety of myths in the 3D field at the moment.
Myth 1: Who said you need glasses! Nintendo (3DS) along with other companies (Think Sharp, DoCoMo) clearly show that 3D is capable of being seen without the need for glasses. I can easily imagine a 3D TV without glasses in the near future, engineers just need to learn how they can use better viewing angles and newer pieces of technology for this. I wouldn't consider this a huge stretch... yet I feel that the community has hardly thought about this.
Myth 2: But! it's so expensive! I agree, but as nearly everything in the technology field gets cheaper as newer materials and ways to create it are found. It just needs time!
3D can easily become the new standard, but why everyone so against it puzzles me. I feel that the many articles and 'vibes' may in fact halter or destroy this goal. Therefore a positive message could be vital to further technologies within the 3D field.
I think consumers and creators need to open their minds to possibilities 3D can hold. 3D holds all new dimensions of potential as seen by Sony's multiplayer concept in which both players have a separate screen instead of standard split screen.
As a community I think we should let the creators know what we like and dislike about it, but I think all this "Why 3D sucks shit and always will" articles are lame, if not offensive.
On a side note, I predict Apple might very will pick up on this and incorporate 3D in their new mobile devices, accompanied with a 'revolutionary' designed interface.
